And my hands are still stained red

Yesterday was a messy shoot day. The lovely Fenrah and I set off to Westgate Studios in Long Eaton for a few hours involving body paint and a shower (Westgate has a ‘wet set’). A warm welcome was extended from Chris at Westgate and I thank him for his hospitality, a great studio should you even need one. We were also joined by the lunatic that is known as James Rose and the talented Sarah Jane York whom were doing their own thing.

Whilst due to nudity I can’t currently put many of the images on here, I have uploaded a few to viewed. Now Fen done the majority of the painting herself in a mirror, a talent in itself, only requiring my assistance to paint her ‘painting arm’ and he back. My artwork was not as refined as hers unfortunately but I feel it did the trick.

As a result of yesterday’s shoot we now have a number of cunning plans to follow, some involving just paint and others including latex, prosthetics and scales so watch this space.

Stunning 'mirror' work.

The Pit

On Saturday I attended a shoot to which I had been previously invited. Now I often avoid open group shoots as there are usually too many cooks and too much ego for the studio but I thought as this was invite only it was worth a shot. And, as a departure from the ‘normal’ group shoot, this was not held in a studio but in a pub and I had been invited to the shoot by the lovely Evie Wolfe.

Now a shoot in a pub was an excellent idea. We would commence at 9am before the pub opened at lunchtime. However this was no ordinary pub. This was the Pit and Pendulum in Nottingham. Now I had been aware of what is known colloquially as ‘The Pit’ but even though I had walked past many times, usually on a shoot, I had never ventured inside. What a mistake. It is a fabulous place. Gothic in design and atmosphere with faux bookcases in the walls, alcoves, chains, and all manner of scientific apparatus decorating the ceilings and walls. If you can imagine how the Hammer Film Company would design a pub interior, you’re probably close to the mark.

So, we had the run of the bars for the morning and then in the afternoon (once the pub was open) we were allowed use of the rooms over the pub to continue the shoot. Now I say rooms but large studios would be a better description if ever there were one. Loads of natural light and ample space.

The first part of the plan for the day was to shoot some of the models in latex clothing designed by a local designer. I was able to shoot the lovely and feisty welshwoman Fenrah, my favourite mad fish Nemo and then someone I hadn’t met before, the lovely, flame haired Toxic Angel, before we moved upstairs for part two of the plan.

Part two was to shoot different girls portraying each of the seven deadly sins and four talented male models as the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Excellent. The temperature was freezing, literally and the rooms had no heating so time and warmth were of the essence but we managed most of what we set out to do and a huge round of applause goes out to the girls and guys for their tolerance of the cold. Having experienced freezing in my underwear for charity in October I can more than empathise with them. During this part of the shoot I had the pleasure of working with all those named above already (Nemo, Evie, Toxic Angel and Fenrah) as well as, the gorgeous Miss Abyss, the stunning Lubyluw and the unmistakable Fiery Phoenix. The men that deserve a mention were, the awesome Jack, the new but very talented Anthony, the classic looking Sam and the endless expression Valen.

Top marks also must go to Fenrah for some amazing make up effects.

Anyway, below are a selection of the images from the day, more can currently be seen here and I would just like to say a big thanks to those that organised it and can’t wait for the next one. I must also extend a thank you to my helper for the day, the very keen to learn, Caitlin Sumner.
